....As He Receives Award of Service from the Youth Anti-Corruption Society
The momentum continues to build as more groups are rallying behind Engr. Dr. Legborsi Yamaabana, Supervisor for Youth Affairs in Khana, urging him to enter the race for the Chairmanship of Khana Local Government Council in the forthcoming Rivers State Local Government elections scheduled for October 5th. The latest call comes from the Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers (SGM), making them the 48th group from Khana to advocate for Dr. Yamaabana’s candidacy.
During a meeting with Dr. Yamaabana, Hon. Joseph Kukang, the Coordinator of the Movement in Khana, expressed the group’s conviction that Dr. Yamaabana possesses the essential qualities to propel the local government area towards significant development. Hon. Kukang highlighted the impactful projects initiated and executed by Dr. Yamaabana both before and during his tenure as Supervisor for Youth Affairs, which underscores his capability to lead the council effectively.
Hon. Ledum Kukang further noted that the SGM has established structures across all wards and units within Khana, positioning them as a formidable force in the local political landscape. The group’s endorsement is rooted in Dr. Yamaabana’s track record of achievements, including the provision of clean water for communities in Khana, the facilitation of relief materials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for internally displaced persons, the annual “Back to Farm” support program for women, and the empowerment of over 80 youths during his tenure as a member of the Khana Caretaker Committee.
In solidarity, Hon. Smith Letura Allison, Coordinator of Rivers South South-East Senatorial District, and Hon. Robertson Jack, State Secretary and Spokesman, emphasized their decision to join the call for Dr. Yamaabana’s candidacy. They stated that their support aligns with the desire to see the Simplified Developmental Blueprint of His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, replicated across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State. The group also committed to purchasing the expression of interest and nomination forms for Dr. Yamaabana and providing all necessary support should he decide to run.
In response, Dr. Yamaabana, who also serves as the Chairman of the Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition and President General of the Ogoni Youth Federation, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support. He assured the group that he is currently engaged in wide consultations with stakeholders, including Governor Fubara, and will announce his decision in due course. Dr. Yamaabana also encouraged the group to return to their communities and mobilize support for
Governor Fubara’s administration,
emphasizing the importance of continued grassroots engagement.
Following the meeting with SGM, Dr. Yamaabana attended an event in Rivers State where he was invited as a guest speaker. During the event, he was honored with an *Award of Service* by the Youth Anti-Corruption Society in recognition of his substantial contributions and advocacy in promoting youth participation in governance and politics. In his address, Dr. Yamaabana urged the students present to prioritize their education while viewing student unionism as a critical foundation for future leadership roles.
