PMAN NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL HALTS SUSPENSION OF PRETTY OKAFOR; URGES NWC TO MAINTAIN STATUS QUO.

The National Executive Council of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria - PMAN has directed the National Working Committee of the union to maintain status quo regarding the suspension of President of PMAN, Mr Pretty Okafor, and some Governors/Sole Administrators of some state chapters.

The NEC in an eleven point communiqué issued at the end of an emergency meeting, and signed by members, said no further action should be taken on the purported suspension of Mr Okafor and the state governors/sole administrators, pending the conduct of a full hearing on the matter.

The NEC has in the meantime, set up a National Disciplinary Committee - NDC with a mandate to investigate allegations of misconduct and breaches of the PMAN constitution levelled against Mr Pretty Okafor and the state governors/sole administrators.

According to the communiqué, the NEC affirmed that the suspension of any member, including the president, must be based on finding guilt by a disciplinary committee as stipulated in Article 18(D) of PMAN Constitution, adding the NEC was committed to due process in order to ensure equity and fairness.

The NEC therefore called on the president, Pretty Okafor to appear before the National Disciplinary Committee to clear his name on the allegations levelled against him.

It also directed the National Working Committee to issue a press release across all platforms just as it had initially done, to notify the public of the latest decision of the NEC, so as to mitigate the effect of the previous publication on the general public.

Meanwhile, the NEC has urged members across the country to remain calm, assuring the pending issues will be resolved amicably.

Signed:
Victor Effiong (Maestro Vic),
Publicity Secretary,
PMAN, Rivers State.
