The Creative industry in Rivers State is seriously bleeding because of Political Crisis - Entertainment Executive Tambari Steve cries out | #RwGBlog

I WRITE THIS WITH DEEP PAINS: THE EFFORT AND RESOURCES WE CREATIVES INVEST TO PUT OUR BEAUTIFUL RIVERS STATE ON THE WORLD MAP ARE BEING DESTROYED OVERNIGHT BY THE POLITICAL CLASS.

My team and I have been running Showbiz and Media Brand (RwGBlog News) in Rivers State for over 15 years, organizing more than 78 events. Throughout this time, I've received numerous suggestions to move to Lagos for better opportunities due to the level of energy we put into our work.

However, we have consistently declined these offers. My ex-girlfriend even arranged a hotel deal in Lagos for a monthly Faji Nite show, with the hotel eager to partner with us as it was a new establishment in Lekki. Ultimately, we chose to remain in Port Harcourt, believing success could come from anywhere. Unfortunately, that belief may not hold true for Rivers State. Our leaders primarily invest in politics rather than the creative arts, and if you approach them for event or entertainment sponsorship, they often discourage you which has made many chose a different career paths.

Many creatives are working independently, lacking support from the government or political figures, all to showcase our beautiful city to the world. Yet, we hear only about political conflicts, pulling us 20years backward.

When we host events, outsiders hesitate to attend due to safety concerns. Companies rarely sponsor events here because of ongoing crises.

I am truly fed up.

The recent situation has deeply affected me. Our counterparts in Lagos continue to advance while we lack behind.

Port Harcourt was meant to be the next mega city for creative arts, but politicians hinder that potential. I can no longer recommend that any creative stay in this city; many brands have shut down due to the crisis

It’s clear we are not valued—Rivers is all about politics.

I need to relocate.
